Case Study

Rjukan Fish Farm

Rjukan Fish Farm, located in the Telemark region of Norway, is a land-based trout farming business using advanced Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology.

The Averon Group has supported the development of the business as part of its sustainable agriculture activities. The RAS technology enables highly efficient water management, recycling approximately 99.3% of water used in the production process2. The facility also utilises waste heat recovered from nearby data centres, improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the business is progressing towards zero-emission transport solutions for both feed and harvested fish, further reducing its environmental footprint.

When fully operational, Rjukan Fish Farm is expected to produce approximately 9,000 tonnes of trout annually, contributing to sustainable food production through efficient resource utilisation, responsible environmental management and modern aquaculture practices.

The business benefits from strong demand for high-quality, sustainably produced fish and is well positioned to respond to changing market conditions through operational efficiency, product quality and long-term customer relationships.

Beyond its commercial activities, Rjukan Fish Farm contributes to regional economic development by creating skilled employment, supporting local supply chains and producing sustainably farmed food for domestic and export markets.

The business demonstrates the Averon Group's approach to developing sustainable operating businesses that combine commercial resilience with responsible environmental stewardship and long-term value creation.
