Battery storage plays a critical role in modern energy systems by capturing excess power - particularly from renewable sources like wind and solar - when supply is high, and releasing it when demand increases
This helps to balance supply and demand on the electricity grid, manage fluctuations in renewable generation, and improve overall grid stability. As renewable energy is inherently intermittent, battery storage is considered a key enabler of the transition to a lower-carbon energy system.
Averon Park allocated capital to battery storage through the acquisition of Harmony Energy Income in June 2025, alongside an institutional Foresight fund. The sub-group comprises approximately 400MW/800MWh of operational battery storage capacity across eight sites in the UK, making it one of the largest portfolios of two-hour duration BESS assets at the time. These assets benefit from long-term, index-linked capacity market contracts and have demonstrated strong revenue performance, supported by their ability to operate effectively during periods of market volatility.
Looking ahead, the division is positioned for further optimisation and value creation, with a long operational life and opportunities to enhance performance through improved trading strategies and operational efficiencies. The acquisition strengthens Averon Park’s position in the UK battery storage market, providing exposure to a critical part of the energy transition while continuing to deliver stable, infrastructure-style returns.
